Atlanta, the capital city of Georgia has in recent times transformed itself from a regional commercial center to an international city.Atlanta is one of the three cities in the US to host the summer Olympic Games, apart from St. Louis and Los Angeles.The city has witnessed rapid growth in recent years and draws numeorus visitors for business purposes

A brief history of the city

Atlanta is famous for its museums and has museums on varied subjects ranging from fine art to history, beverages to natural history. The most famous are those, which honours the participation of Atlanta in the movement of civil right such as Jr. National Historic Site and Martin Luther King. Some of the other important museums of history are the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum and Atlanta History Center. The High Museum is among the largest and accomplished museums of the country. It has a masive collection of 11,00 pieces that range from ancient to modern and has collection of contemporary sculptures, painting and installation. Special exhibition of this museum are freqently held and the tickets of these exhibition are in great demand, so they should be purchased in advance. Museums, dedicated solely to children are, Imagine It, Atlanta's Children's Museum and the Fernbank Science Center.

Art in the city is represented by numerous museums and theaters, which include Fox theater. The Atlanta Opera which was started by two strrugling local companies is presently a world renowned opera. Atlanta has a rich history of music. Some of the well known ensembles include Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Symphonty Orchestra, and Atlanta Ballet and popular classical musicians include Robert Shaw and Robert Spano.

Pidemont Park is a famous park of the city which hosts the cultural and festival events. Stone Mountain, situated at the Eastern side of the city is world’s biggest piece of exposed granite.

The skyline of Atlanta is punctuated with midrise and highrise buildings of Postmodern vintage and moder era. Atlanta’s skyline are mainly concentrated in its three districts, Buckhead, midtown and downtown. The world’s 29th tallest building, Bank of American Plaza is in Atlanta. The building is also the country’s tallest building outside of New York and Chicago.
